I don’t remember how I stumbled across this book. And when I picked it out of the TBR list, I thought I might spend a few mildly entertaining hours with the usual formulaic royal story: plain girl meets handsome prince, he likes her because she is the only one who sees the real person beyond the royalty, they fall in love, she's deemed unworthy by someone who tries to break them up, then true love wins out.
I suppose you could say this story somewhat follows the formula. But holy hell! I have not laughed out loud while reading in a very long time, and I did so within a few minutes of starting this book. The characters were so authentic and engaging, the dialogue so witty and charming, that I honestly did not want it to end. The story is told beautifully in dual POav, and how this author made Arthur so realistic is uncanny. If I had to imagine how a really nice guy born into his situation would speak and behave, she nailed it. The same is true of Tessa, a girl who has taken a back seat to her brilliant brothers all her life, and who has been underestimated by most everyone around her.
This book was a great surprise. It is just awesome to start a book for which your expectations are low, then to be blown away by it. Can’t wait to read the sequels.

The Royal Treatment The Crown Jewels Romantic Comedy Series Book 1 edition by Melanie Summers MJ Summers Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Tessa (the Royal Watchdog) has made shaming the Royals her number one priority. She doesn’t understand her country’s need of the Royal Family and has made her thoughts known on her blog, a blog that has a large following.
Prince Arthur has a plan, his plan is to invite Tessa to stay in the castle with him and his family. Not everyone is happy about it though. All he can think about is getting her on his side so that she would see the good that comes from having the Royal Family around. He hatches his plan and moves her in while his father (the King) is on yet another vacation out of the country.
It’s great reading, witty, full of humor. I loved the interaction between Arthur and Tessa as they get to know each other and figure out how to maneuver through daily life living in the same space while being such polar opposites. I laughed out loud so many times that my family learned to ignore me. If you want a truly funny read, I highly recommend this book. The best part was when I read about Prince Arthur sending Prince Harry a text congratulating him on his engagement, when I had just read that the real life Prince Harry had just gotten engaged!! Great job on that prediction!! I can’t wait to get into book two!!
Refreshing, funny, great writing! Most cannot write funny, wit-filled dialog like this. Found myself smiling, giggling, and cheering for all.
Bit heavy on the f-bombs . Sexual situations.
4.7 Stars.* All the great stuff other reviewers are posting is true. Characters carry the day for me, and the protagonists here are a treat. The book is fundamentally chick lit, but done this way there's nothing bad about that. This is an imaginary kingdom of Avonia (cute reference to Genova slipped in there) but it doesn't hurt if your are a U.K. Royal watcher like me. I did find the brothers a little two dimensional, would love to see them evolve. I will keep my eye out for this author, and I ordered the next one.
* I'm an inordinately picky reader. Five stars goes to my addictions and falling-over good (such as Harry Potter). Four stars from me is still a jolly good book.
A hero who is homophobic, drinks a lot, likes looking at women with big breasts jogging, and talks about his stiffening sceptre.
A heroine who swears in a north American way, gets drunk to cope with stress.
Heroine' s married brothers like to look down the top of their unmarried brothers new girlfriend at a family dinner. And the family doesn't say or do a thing about it.
No. Just no.
This was a great book, funny in spots, poignant in others, and I'm no prude, but saw no real reason for the mant "F bombs" throughout the entire story. It was funny enough to stand on it's own merits without repeatedly using those.
Boy meets girl. Girl is a saucy (and slightly goofball) commoner; boy is the future king of the (fictional) country. Boy is a bit of an egotistical womanizing jerk; girl is going to put him in his place. Girl and boy find out they have more in common than they thought, and of course, fall in love.

I'm not writing anything that will be a spoiler or a shock to anyone who loves chick lit -- after all, nobody is going to read some lighthearted rom-com to be disappointed in the outcome!

I haven't adored a princess-in-the-making novel this much since reading MaryJanice Davidson's Alaskan Royal trilogy - which, coincidentally, also starts with a book called "The Royal Treatment". I found myself frequently laughing out loud, and enjoyed the character development. Looking forward to finding out if Melanie Summers rounds this series out to a trilogy!
