Thought this sounded like a good book. The two who had rated it gave it good reviews. After reading it myself though, i don't understand why. The writing style was good, and the early interactions between the cousins were amusing. It is the only reason I rated this with 2stars. However, the rest was just ridiculously unbelievable, drawn out, and boring. I finally skipped to the end after chapter 9. Just couldn't stand anymore and wanted it over. Also, the title was very misleading. I anticipated a historical romance with a spy focus. This largely lacked as to intrigue. Perhaps someone else will get more out of it than I did.

Unmasking the Spy edition by Janet Kent Jenn Black Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Perhaps it is wrong to say I hate a book I've not read, but then it is impossible to read a downloaded book when all that downloads is a cover. What I hate is the aggravation.
Blank book. Can’t believe this. Help!
The title of the book might give you the impression of it being something else but it is a good book. Ian is more like a private detective in the book then a spy. As he is trying to investigate some thefts. Funny how he and Alicia don't get along with each other during the day but they do at night. He is disguised and she takes him for a robber and she gives him a false name. Too bad as he could be an alternative to her having to marry her cousin Louis in two weeks. That is all the time she has bought for herself. Louis must want to marry her for some reason other then love as he clearly proves to her that he doesn't love her. A twist of fate might just put Ian and Alicia together despite not knowing each other's true identities. A good book which I would reccomend.
There was no book to read! Just a cover page and a review option. The title is intriguing, really wanted to read this quick story before bed!
Heroine Alicia is looking for a husband on her own so she's not forced into marrying her weird and creepy cousin at her father's insistence. She has a very short window before the announcement. You find out why her dad is pushing the marriage later. While attending the required parties and balls, she comes across the hero and makes a fool of herself every time she sees him.

The hero, Ian Morrisey, is after a thief as a favor for his mysterious friend and former colleague. To his dismay he has to rub shoulders with the boring and superficial society members to find the thief. During his investigation in the middle of the night he runs across a woman in the alleged thief's household whom he believes is the thief's house guest, when in reality it's the daughter of the man he's investigating. (That's not a spoiler.) Neither of them know who the other is since he wears a mask and she apparently sits in the dark so he doesn't recognize her.

When they meet at balls or soirees, she's rude and condescending to him even though he ends up 'rescuing' her numerous times from the creepy cousin. An innocent event occurs I won't give away that brings on a sequence of other events including suspense, drama, romance and a couple of hold-your-breath moments.

A bit predictable but a fast, easy read that includes plenty of humor, romance, a number of surprises and an eccentric, wacky old woman.
I saw the reviews that said the book was blank and thought, "Surely they've fixed it by now." But, NO. It's still blank, folks. All you get is the cover image. FOR SHAME, AMAZON!
It seemed to me there was little interaction between the two main characters. A lot of planning by the heroine as she tried to find a way to avoid being married off to her second cousin.

I had little liking for the odious cousin or the heroine`s father.

Our hero is supposed to be investigating the father to discover if he is involved in some thefts of art. Our heroine has on a cap and some old fashioned patches on her face when she discovers the hero sleuthing in her father`s library. He has donned black clothing and is wearing a mask.

This couple meets again and again at dinners and balls but never recognize each other. But they meet several more times late at night in her father's house, still costumed as in their first meeting. The physical attraction builds, and both have stirrings of deepening feelings.

She is placed in a compromising position, and she and hero are forced to marry -- but not before she gives herself to her masked man.

Hero takes her to his estate in the country, and he intends to be a a faithful husband. She gets along with his sisters and the couple find they are attracted to each other. She overhears a conversation and discovers he is her masked lover.

There is a kidnapping and a rescue.

I really would have enjoyed more interaction between the main characters. The heroine had more conversations with the sisters and her aunt than she had with the hero.

Wasn't as romantic as many of the stories I have read.
